Judge's homerless streak reaches career-high 16 games, Yanks beat Red Sox 2-1 on Soto's hit in 10th
New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge extended his homerless streak to a career-high 16 games on Saturday, but the Yankees still managed to beat the Boston Red Sox 2-1 in 10 innings on a walk-off single by Gleyber Torres.
Judge, who leads the American League with 57 home runs this season, went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Saturday. He last homered on Aug. 29 against the Chicago Cubs.
Despite Judge's struggles, the Yankees were able to scratch out a win thanks to a strong performance from their bullpen. The bullpen, which has been one of the best in baseball this season, combined to allow just one run on four hits over seven innings.
The Red Sox took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 10th inning on an RBI single by Xander Bogaerts. But the Yankees came right back in the bottom of the inning and tied the game on a sacrifice fly by DJ LeMahieu.
With runners on first and second and two outs, Torres came to the plate and delivered the game-winning hit, a single to left field that scored Aaron Hicks.
The win was the Yankees' fourth in a row and moved them to 83-51 on the season. The Red Sox, meanwhile, fell to 65-69.
Here are some additional highlights from the game:
- Domingo Germán started for the Yankees and allowed one run on four hits over five innings. He struck out seven and walked one.
- Lucas Luetge, Miguel Castro, and Clay Holmes combined to allow just one hit over the final four innings for the Yankees.
- Nathan Eovaldi started for the Red Sox and allowed one run on four hits over six innings. He struck out seven and walked three.
- Bogaerts finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- Torres finished the game 1-for-4 with the game-winning RBI.
The Yankees will face the Red Sox again on Sunday in the Bronx. Jameson Taillon is scheduled to start for the Yankees, while Nick Pivetta is scheduled to start for the Red Sox.
