F1 Sprint Qualifying

Sprint Qualifying at the Miami Grand Prix

All the action from Friday afternoon

Qualifying takes place in three stages: SQ1, SQ2, and SQ3, each lasting 12 minutes and 10 minutes

The Formula 1 weekend is getting a shake-up this weekend in Silverstone with the introduction of F1 Sprint or Sprint Qualifying to some. The Miami GP Sprint race starts at 5pm 630pm.

Sprint Qualifying takes place on Friday afternoon and is split into three stages: SQ1, SQ2, and SQ3. The top 10 drivers from SQ1 progress to SQ2, and the top 10 drivers from SQ2 progress to SQ3. The driver who sets the fastest time in SQ3 will start the race on Saturday in pole position.

The decision to introduce Sprint Qualifying was made in an effort to make Formula 1 more exciting and unpredictable. It is hoped that Sprint Qualifying will give drivers more opportunities to overtake and make it more difficult for the top teams to dominate.

The first Sprint Qualifying event took place at the British Grand Prix in 2021. Max Verstappen won the event, and he went on to win the race on Sunday. It remains to be seen whether Sprint Qualifying will be a success, but it is certainly an interesting experiment.
